Personal Leadership for Sustainability with YPO & Salesforce
We are at a crossroads in human history, where climate change will affect our future generations, our children and their children. Sustainability is a responsibility that starts with leadership and a change in mindset .
Businesses play a key role in creating a more sustainable future and business leaders need to work together to make a difference. Together we can better advocate for policies, chart new solutions, and scale impactful programs to promote the well-being of people and the planet.
Last week NYC held the UNGA Climate Summit and meeting on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), two major topics surrounding this year’s UNGA gathering. Orion Global Solutions had the privilege of being involved in several very empowering events surrounding the climate changes that we are all facing globally.
Orion’s CEO, Yacov Wrocherinsky, worked together with Salesforce leadership to help organize a Climate Action Reception to complement these UNGA events as well as a private dinner to bring together Salesforce leaders and members of the Young Presidents Organization (YPO) NYC Chapter to drive change and action for a sustainable future.
Yacov is chairing the YPO NYC Sustainability Initiative which encourages CEOs to pledge to one or more sustainable practices to improve the health of our planet. Over 35 YPO NYC Chapter members have already taken the sustainability pledge and is expected to expand throughout the Chapter.
Business leaders have the unique opportunity to keep this movement alive at a larger scale, and on a corporate level, by inspiring employees, peers, and family. The dinner was co-hosted by Mark Hawkins, President and CFO Salesforce, Yacov Wrocherinsky, CEO Orion Global Solutions, and Patrick Flynn, VP Sustainability at Salesforce who focused on their own personal journeys and why sustainability meant so much to them and encouraged round table discussions with the attending YPO members.
Just ahead of UNGA week Salesforce announced Sustainability Cloud which is “a carbon accounting product for businesses to drive climate action that will accelerate the world’s efforts towards carbon neutrality,” which has been Patrick Flynn’s sole focus. This platform gives users a much needed tool to be able to measure their carbon emissions and report on their impact.
Overall, the evening was filled with great discussion on personal leadership for sustainability and how business leaders can make an impact on the world by opening their mindset and taking immediate action. Leaders left with 10 actionable ideas to make sustainability a priority in their own lives and businesses.
